FAQs

Why do you need donations? Doesn’t the City take care of it?

The City is a generous contributor by providing staff for street closures, traffic control, safety measures, set up and clean up.  However, they do not use city tax dollars to pay for the fireworks and other expenses.  Those funds are covered through the contributions of businesses and individuals. You can contribute to ensure the show goes on next year.

What are food options?

There will be concession stands open at Bayfront Park to provide food and beverages. We also urge you to support Downtown Petoskey businesses by arranging takeout dinners that you can take to the waterfront.

For downtown dining options visit the Petoskey Downtown Dining directory.

What time do the fireworks start? And where can they be seen?

The fireworks display takes place at dusk, approximately at 10:30 PM.

The fireworks are shot along the shores of Little Traverse Bay from the area by the pond, just beyond the restrooms, on the east end of Bay Front Park. Viewing is available all along Bay Front Park, but just be careful to not sit behind a tree that can block your view.

Where is the best place to see the parade?

The parade organizes at Petoskey High School and steps off onto Kalamazoo Street, turns left on Mitchell Street where it goes through the downtown. It turns right onto Petoskey Street, and then right onto Lake Street and breaks up near the gazebo area at Pennsylvania Park. REMINDER: Please do not stand on the islands during the parade.

Where are there public restrooms?

Restrooms include a separate building attached to the side of Petoskey Chamber of Commerce at the corner of Howard and Mitchell Streets; at the Bear River Valley Recreational Area on Quaintance Ave; at the back of the City Building on Lake Street near the River; and at Bayfront Park near the concession stand by the ballfield, and at the east end of the park near the pond.

Are sparklers, firecrackers, etc. allowed at the waterfront?

In a word, NO. Firecrackers, sparklers, and any other type of fire hazards are not permitted.
